About me

As a previously inexperienced small business owner, I struggled immensely with getting my business off the ground. It turned out that creating a completely original project idea was the easy part. I spent countless hours searching the internet for information on starting a small business; relating to digital marketing, filing a trademark, creating business proposals, etc. It was so overwhelming; the amount of information available to me, as well as all the components that comprise starting a business. Between all the researching I had been doing, while still working my day job, I felt so burnt out. And I had yet to even get out of the research phase! I felt so hopeless. Much of society seemingly are able to balance personal projects with full time work and personal lives. Why couldn’t I? What was I missing? The Azores company was born as the answer to these questions. Support! I was missing support from other entrepreneurs on the same page of their ventures as I was. I wanted to create an online presence to meet and network with others who can offer support and guidance for planning and creating balance in my life to avoid discouragement and burn out.

You may be asking why I didn’t simply create a forum on reddit or other related websites. Well, the self creator in me chose to form my own brand that instilled feelings of warmth and calmness for when emotions such as these are lost in daily life. My goal for this company and brand is to support other entrepreneurs such as myself develop both mental, physical and spiritual skills and strategies for creating, owning, running, and succeeding at small business ventures. How can I achieve this goal? We need to all work together, participating in discussions, initiating new forum topics, and just listening to one another when we need it. I welcome each and every one of you to this community, and am indebted to you for your diverse perspectives and experiences. That’s it for me over here. Why the Owl

Furry And Mysterious

Historically, the owl is a symbol for new found wisdom, self actualization, deeper spiritual insight in one's self, and a strengthened perspective to a formerly challenging situation. The Ancient Greeks would release an owl to sore over a battlefield pre battle, as it was presumed this act would ensue Greek victory. The goal of this forum, and for those who join into our community, aligns with much of what the owl symbolizes. So I chose to associate The Azores with this furry and mysterious creature so the end goal of The Azores brand is never lost.

Why Colour, logo, and name

Colour

When choosing the colours integrated in The Azores brand, I focused on the emotions I desired the page to foster in you. I concentrated on colours associated with warmth and internal peace; chestnut brown and greyish-pink. I saw that these colours produced memories of a Canadian fall season; leaves changing colours, long hikes with friends, cozy drinks. It’s a time that you hope you can live in forever.

Logo

As seen, the logo for The Azores company is an elegantly designed compass. This logo was chosen to reflect the literary symbol encompassed (ha!) by a compass: for one searching for direction. And, as you know by now, The Azores provides direction to the directionless (or something less cheesy; you get the point though)

Name

If it isn’t known, the name Azores is currently inhabited by the great people of Portugal, who have gifted it to a set of islands far off its coast in the North Atlantic Ocean. With it’s award winning vineyards, grand escarpments, luxury resorts, and phenomenal hiking trails, its no wonder these islands are any adventurer searching for self actualization’s dream. With its feel-good colour palette, kind and gracious admin, and exquisitely diverse and informative forum, its no wonder The Azores Small Business Forum is, well, the same thing.
